How to make your weight loss stick

We live in an instant gratification world, everything happens so quickly; same-day delivery, ‘life hacks’, fad diets. All aimed at getting us the result we want as fast as possible. This is great for giving us the quick fix we are looking for but how does it translate for long-term growth and change?

Many of my clients come to me having tried all sorts of weird and wonderful diets, the usual story is one of fast weight loss and good feelings for a few weeks but gradually the diet starts to slip and the weight begins to increase until they are back to square one or often worse.

It is natural that people want results as quickly as possible. However, I have NEVER known a fad diet that leads to lasting change without a change in the person’s mindset and lifestyle to go along with it.

The vast majority of diet challenges, clubs and plans do not result in long-term change. The reason for this is they are designed for quick results and are not sustainable. Who wouldn’t lose weight only drinking mushed-up veg for 30 days, but who fancies doing that forever?

If you really want to make a difference to your overall health and happiness you need to break your current lifestyle cycle. To do this you need to introduce small changes to the way you live your life which will build up to become the most empowering and effective change possible.

So, how do you do that?

In my opinion, the best way to create lasting changes in your lifestyle is to introduce tiny changes to the things you do every day and build them up over a long period of time.

For example, let’s say that you have 3 cups of tea a day, each with 2 teaspoons of sugar. A teaspoon of sugar is approximately 16 calories, 6 x 16 = 96 calories. 96 calories per day for 1 year is 35,040 which equates to around 23lb of body fat if left unburned.

This is a brilliant opportunity to lose body fat in the long term. All you need to do is make a plan of attack to make a lasting change.

35,040 calories to 0 calories in 4 months……

Month 1 – Every other day only have 1 teaspoon of sugar in your tea (approx. 720 calories saved)

Month 2 – Every day only have 1 teaspoon of sugar in your tea (approx. 1,440 saved)

Month 3 – Every other day have no sugar in your tea (approx. 2160 saved)

Month 4 – No sugar in your tea (approx. 2880 saved)

And there you have in. Nearly 2 stone’s worth of excess calories are removed from your lifestyle each year and you will stick with it forever!

Remember the tortoise beat the hare 😊 You can use this formula for any of your nutrition choices in your life.
